An epic trip to major sporting events throughout Europe & the USA

Day 84: London

It was time to get right into the Olympics events as Jim and Mamfa headed to the London Olympics velodrome at Lee Valley for their first ever go at track cycling. It was a bit strange at first getting used to the fixed gear and no brakes but after a few laps they had the hang of it. It was then time for the flying lap up against the group of 12. Not too shabby from them (the pros are about 50% faster – but they also get a bigger gear). Mamfa thought it was great fun and would love to do it again in a bigger gear.

“Flying” lap – looks much slower than on the bike

We said goodbye to Jim as he headed back to Newcastle.

I also got some play action in.

Slip sliding away

We took a double decker bus ride into London Bridge and the Borough Market which was absolutely heaving, like everywhere else in London. Paris was nothing like this – so many people.

It was then a ferry ride down the Thames to Greenwich.

It was then onto the new cable car across the Thames and back to Eleanor’s to say goodbye and take the train to Milton Keynes where Mawfa’s uncle Geoff was waiting to take us to his place for the next few days.
