We started the day today with a visit to the Catacombs of Paris. This is an extensive network of tunnels that were created to mine the limestone to build Paris from the 12th century. When the reserves were depleted and the network became dangerous due to sinkholes appearing above, the city solved that problem and the problem of needing to move cemeteries by mapping and strengthening the tunnels and relocating over 6 million bodies into it. It is now a slightly bizarre and sombre tourist attraction.

It was then off to Bercy Arena for the women’s basketball semifinal between Australia and the USA. There were pockets of Aussies in the crowd but mostly neutrals. We didn’t have much hope for a win and that is how it played out with the US a class above.

After a short rain shower on the way home, we were treated to a beautiful rainbow over our hotel.

Mamfa also ordered some weird beef and cheese skewers for dinner.
