An epic trip to major sporting events throughout Europe & the USA

Day 58: Split, Croatia

Today was a full day trip around the islands near Split. We set off in a jet boat for a 1.5hr ride to the Blue Cave which is just what it says on the tin but quite an amazing place. You first enter in a small boat through an opening that doesn’t look anywhere big enough.

High speed ride – a bit rough in places

The boat then gets pushed through a short cavern before opening up into the blue cave. It really is the colour in the photos. It was crystal clear and the bottom looked about 5-6m below but it is apparently 16m deep. The bright blue glowing effect is created when the sun’s rays enter through the water and reflect off the limestone floor of the cave. The sun lights up the water, and the glowing sea illuminates the cave walls a brilliant blue.

Next stop was the island of Vis in the pretty little village of Komiza (where Mamma Mia 2 was filmed apparently). We had a swim here where there water was a great temperature and there is so much more salt in the water that even Mamfa was able to float!

We then headed to a small private island with the Blue Lagoon where we did some snorkeling. There was a reasonable range of fish to see in the calm bay.

Final stop on the trip was the town of Hvar on the island of Hvar. After having lunch we wandered through the back streets and then up to the Fort overlooking the town. Some great views and an interesting structure.

After another hour of bumpy, wet ride back to Split, the tour was over. All in all, a great trip.

After a dinner overlooking the harbour, our final stop for the day was FroggyLand. This is an exhibition of 507 stuffed frogs in 21 exhibits where they are all acting out a scene of everyday life. Very entertaining and bizarre.

This day in sporting history (23 July)
