Today was again the Tour de France with the Stage 7 time trial starting in the nearby town of Nuit-St Georges. We were lucky enough to get a last minute bike hire and rode the 25kms to the start through the vineyards of the Burgundy wine region.

The time trial is a good stage to see as you get to walk past all of the team buses and see the riders warming up and the huge amount of money spent on bikes and equipment.

The riders took off in 1min intervals.

After watching the first 30 or so riders from a few different places, we rode back the 12km to the finish line to watch the last 30 riders (i.e. the best ones) finish. A very close finish won by Remco Evenepoel ahead of Tadej Pogacar. The ride back was on the route that all the finished riders came back to their team bus so we passed many of them on-route.

We saw each of the riders come in before riding back to Dijon where we ran into Australia’s greatest Tour de France rider in Cadel Evans – a great thrill.
It was a fantastic day. Beautiful weather, back on the bike, great scenery and getting up close to the riders – magical!
Finished the day watching the Euro quarter final between France and Portugal in a public square in Dijon. With France winning the penalty shootout, the crowd went nuts.
