An epic trip to major sporting events throughout Europe & the USA

Day 31: Munich

A quieter day around Munich today. A visit to the BMW Museum and BMW Welt (World). An interesting look at the development of the cars and the company inside very fancy architecturally designed buildings.

One interesting part of the exhibition was the section on the use of force labour (foreign citizens and POWs) and concentration camp inmates by BMW during WWII. They didn’t try to sugarcoat or justify the involvement and conditions the people worked under which is commendable for their honesty and owning their shame.

We then wandered around the 1972 Munich Olympic Park which still has the stadiums still in use.

Finished off with a visit to Marienplatz and the old Town Hall and cathedral.

Munich feels like the modern, clean, efficient city you would expect – compared to Berlin which seemed unloved with graffiti on nearly every flat surface, peeling stickers on nearly every handrail and lightpole, and weeds growing wildly through the footpaths and the public garden beds and nature strips. It was only a short visit to each but the difference was stark in areas we went.

Mamfa finished “The Bookbinder of Jericho” by Pip Williams. 4 stars.
