An epic trip to major sporting events throughout Europe & the USA

Day 25: Krakow

Today we joined a tour to the fascinating Wieliczka Salt Mine. It has 9 levels, 245 km  of tunnels and is 327 m deepest point. It was first started over 700 years ago and the caverns are filled with sculptures made from rock salt including two chapels. Mamfa was impressed with the engineering of the centuries old shoring and 4-storey lifts.

There were underground lakes, lots of steps as we descended 150m, and even a gift shop, cafe, WiFi and function centre down this far.

After lunch was a completely different experience at Auschwitz and Birkenau which were the largest Nazi concentration camps where over 500,000 people were killed in WWII. It was a very sobering afternoon. It is staggering what a group of people are capable of.

This day in sporting history (20 June)
