After Mamfa did an early morning run, we took the train to Krakow.

We visited Rynek Underground which is a very well created museum underneath the Old Town square. It was excavated 10-15 years ago to expose the old cobbled streets and building foundations from the 12-16th centuries. A concrete roof was built over it and they have created numerous interesting and interactive displays and videos.
Making waves in Rynek Underground
The Old Town square is the largest medieval town square in Europe at 200 x 200m.

After a traditional Polish dinner of potato pancakes and goulash, we joined a walking tour through the Old Town. Kraków’s buildings survived WWII relatively unscathed compared to Warsaw the Old Town and has a multitude of different styles from different centuries. The main entry street however felt like Disneyland with perfectly formed streets and facades with a modern shop in every one of them. The town wall has 38 towers that were each guarded and named after a craft guild e.g. mason, bookbinder, shoemaker etc.

The end of the walk was Wawel hill and Castle which is the oldest part of Krakow dating from the 10th century.

Mamfa finished reading “The Accident” by Fiona Lowe – 3.5 stars.
