An epic trip to major sporting events throughout Europe & the USA

Day 15: Cycle the Baltics Tour Day 5

Only a short ride today of 25kms from Riga to the coastal town of Jurmala. After battling the traffic and footpaths for 10km, we joined a pleasant bike path into Jurmala which is the historical playground of rich, powerful and criminal (e.g. Russian mafia, senior Soviet bureaucrats, corrupt businessman). You could feel the wealth as soon as we crossed the train line into Jurmala as the houses were stately, streets well kept and it had that quiet air of superiority.

We headed to the beach for a quick paddle in the Baltic Sea (warmer than Melbourne beaches in winter) and ride along the beach.

Then lunch in Jurmala where Mamfa was given a pair of gloves to be able to eat his venison burger.

We ended the day with another walk around Riga including the market housed in old German Zeppelin hangars and the Art Nouveau area. Lots of different building styles throughout Riga. The Three Brothers buildings are adjacent buildings constructed in three separate centuries (16th, 17th & 18th centuries)

Mamfa finished “What Alice Forgot” by Liane Moriarty. 3.5 stars.

This day in sporting history (10 June)
