An epic trip to major sporting events throughout Europe & the USA

Introducing Thorny Devil (by 4yo Jake)

In May 2010, my family (Mum, Dad and twin sister Abby) and I went on a holiday to Thailand, which is in Asia. Mum packed a few new toys for Abby and me to play with: a kangaroo, a platypus, a koala, a dingo and a thorny devil. Thorny Devil and I quickly became friends, and we went everywhere together.

Thorny and me having breakfast. He liked crusts – I didn’t.

It was very hot. We spent a week at the beach, and then headed to the jungle for a few days. We had lots of fun at the jungle, even riding on elephants. Abby and I played with Christian, a boy who lived at the jungle huts where we stayed. Christian and I swapped toys for a couple of days: Christian played with Thorny, and I played with one of Christian’s toy snakes. Unfortunately, we lost Snakey in a waterfall. Christian said it didn’t matter, but I gave him my koala to say sorry.

On the day that we left the jungle, we had to wait for a bus to pick us up. In the rush to get on the bus, we accidentally left Thorny behind. We couldn’t go back to get him, so we thought that was the last we would see of him.

But a few weeks after we got home, a postcard arrived from Thorny. He was in Hong Kong! Hong Kong is in Asia but a very long way from Thailand. He had decided to continue his journey and see where else he could travel to. Soon after, we received postcards from Las Vegas and Denver, which are both cities in the United States of America. Thorny then travelled to Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean, near Africa. He sent us another postcard from there.

Finally, Thorny made his way to Portugal, which is in Europe. He posted himself home to us from there, about three months after we left him in Thailand. It is a mystery how he managed to get around, and to send us postcards. But he certainly had a grand adventure!

THE END
