Today was a day of exploring Lisbon. We took the train the half hour ride along the coast into central Lisbon. Mawfa was very keen to get a Portuguese custard tart from a specific shop so that was the first stop.

We then wandered through the narrow streets up to the Convent of Our Lady of Mount Carmel which is the ruins of a structure from 1400 that had the roof and interior destroyed in the 1755 earthquake.

We then caught the historical number 28 tram that wound its way through tight corners, steep hills and narrow streets up to the base of the Castle of Sao Jorge.

The castle had some great views over Lisbon and a Camera Obscura that gave surprisingly good quality 360 degree images of the city. Very clever for just using mirrors and lenses.

I met some of the local wildlife.

We wandered back down through the town before dinner at the TimeOut market which was all upmarket food stalls.
