An epic trip to major sporting events throughout Europe & the USA

Day 74: Paris Olympics Day 5

A quieter day today with just one Olympic event which was the water polo at La Defense Arena in a very modern part of Paris.

A very cool light show preceded the matches.

First game up was Italy v Canada in a 5-8th ranking game. It seems rather than get wedgies while playing, they just start out with wedgies now to get it over with.

Italy was too strong and cruised to a win.

The second match was a semifinal between Spain and The Nederlands. There was huge orange Dutch support in the crowd. After being 11-6 down early in the second half, the Dutch came back to force a penalty shootout. Unfortunately for them, they missed the last penalty and Spain went through.

We then headed wandered back to the hotel to watch more Olympics on TV.

The best things Mamfa and Mawfa did before coming to Paris was get a VPN to be able to stream Australian Olympics coverage and bring a HDMI cable to connect the iPad to the hotel TV.

This day in sporting history (8 August)

1984 Nawal El Moutawakel of Morocco becomes the first female Olympic champion of a Muslim nation, and the first of her country in the 400m hurdles at the Los Angeles Olympics.
