An epic trip to major sporting events throughout Europe & the USA

Day 48: Bratislava

A bit of an adventure into the countryside today. We caught the bus out to the ruins of Devin Castle which is perched on a rock overlooking the Danube River and the border with Austria. It was constructed around the 13th century and there is evidence of a 1st century Roman tower.

We then ventured further into the country to find a sculpture garden that isn’t in any of the tourist guides but Mamfa found on a website for obscure places. It certainly wasn’t a tourist trap as it required disembarking the bus in the middle of nowhere, finding a path off the main road that connected to a dirt track for about 10 minutes into the forest. Felt like we were being setup for some kind of Wolf Creek experience. Finally saw the obvious entry below.

It was however worth the effort as it was filled with dozens of really cool scrap metal sculptures of animals and movie characters. Below is just a sample.

I found a couple of familiar animals.

The movie characters were also impressive.

We headed back to Bratislava for a look around.

We ventured up to Bratislava Castle which had some nice views.

We also stumbled across a World Peace photo competition. Some fantastic photos of which there is a small selection below.

The final stop for the day was the famous Blue Church.
