An epic trip to major sporting events throughout Europe & the USA

Day 37: Zurich

The sporting fix today was a trip to the FIFA Museum (Zurich is the FIFA Headquarters) after Mamfa did a run for which he needed his own inspiration.

It was very interesting and the tour provided some good stories. The original World Cup trophy could only be claimed permanently by the winner if they had won 3 times. So in 1966 it was still with FIFA who put it on display in England. Someone promptly stole it. It was found a few days later by a dog named Pickles wrapped up in newspaper stuffed under a bush in a park. In 1970, Brazil won for the 3rd time so took possession of the trophy. They put it on display where it was promptly stolen and has never been seen again.

Since then FIFA keeps the original trophies (in photos below) and the winners get a replica.

There were some great displays, particularly the colour wheel of the 211 nations that compete for the World Cup

Australia got in there and Sam Kerr featured in some of the videos playing.

I looked hard for the FIFA corruption display but it must have been covered up really well.

We then ventured to Bahnhofstrasse which is where people go to spend huge amounts of money on clothing, perfume, handbags and watches.

A trip to Switzerland is not complete without some chocolate.

Delicious!
