An epic trip to major sporting events throughout Europe & the USA

Day 23: Warsaw

A day of wandering around Warsaw today. It’s an intriguing city with some very modern skyscrapers, some old buildings but many buildings re-built after WWII that they are original style but don’t have the same authenticity. Started with exploring the Old Town (which is quite small compared to the Baltic state capitals) which had a picturesque town square that was basically deserted even at 9am.

Old Town Square

A bit of other wandering took us via some statues of famous Polish people including Marie Curie and Copernicus (plus an English engineer who built the Warsaw water system but had a cool seat made of pipes).

The University of Warsaw library is an impressive building with Europe’s largest rooftop garden.

The Palace of Culture and Science is a hugely imposing building in the city centre.

We then did a long walk to the Muzeo Flippero (Pinball Museum) which was more interactive than museum. There were over 50 original pinball machines and 20 arcade games (including Donkey Kong, Frogger, PacMan, Galaga, Outrun and several shooting and fighting games. After over 2 hours of playing Mamfa had to give up as his hands were starting to cramp. I had a bit of go myself at the Australian themed pinball.

Amazing what I can do with my tail – only one flipper at a time though

Mamfa finished reading “The Surgeon’s Daughter” by Audrey Blake (sequel to Girl in his Shadow) – 4 stars.
