A quieter day today checking out the Lukiskes Prison and the KGB Museum. It was a long walk after stupid Mamfa took off in the wrong direction that extended the walk by about 1km, The prison was closed in 2019 and parts of it have been converted for outdoor concerts, movie nights, raves and seminars. We did a tour of the old prison area which was hard to believe it was still operating only five years ago given the conditions – it still stinks. It was supposed to hold 800 inmates but in 1945 it held about 9,000! These were mostly political prisoners when Russia took over. Mamfa and I also had our mugshot taken for taking photos of the cells when we weren’t supposed to.

The KGB Museum has the history of the occupation of Lithuania by Russia then Nazi Germany then Russia again until the fall of the Soviet Union in 1989. Very interesting but tragic for those involved that were imprisoned and/or deported to Siberia.
This day in sporting history (15 June)
